ANATA GA HOSHI.
November 2013
The two artists Takuma Uematsu (Osaka) and Yuki Hayashi (Kobe) showed sculptures and video works in the exhibition Anata ga hoshii. I want you at WELTKUNSTZIMMER DÜsseldorf. Together with the curator Tadashi Kobayashi (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Kobe) and the designer Tetsuya Goto, they explore questions of translation and understanding through art. The exhibition deals with the interest in the complexity of art, but also in communication, in images, in language, in understanding and how it changes between Osaka and Düsseldorf.
It’s now easy to communicate face-to-face with people in other countries via Skype and we meet in virtual rooms. Travelling from Osaka to Düsseldorf still takes almost a whole day and space travel is still a relatively distant prospect. Life science research into immortality is slower than that of information technology. Our minds free themselves online while our bodies are imprisoned on earth by gravity. What a contradiction. So we will bring our bodies to Düsseldorf and realise our free and limited possibilities.’ (Curator Tadashi Kobayashi)
The exhibition was curated by Tadashi Kobayashi (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art) and organised by Tetsuya Goto ooo projects. The exchange was organised in collaboration with Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber.
