The images of Osaka Public / Osaka Private, 2006 are based on videos shot by Katja Stuke in the streets of Osaka. The images mostly show passers-by who are unaware of being observed by the media. The images are characterised by a certain fleetingness, the people are in motion, some can only be seen as back figures. Stuke’s work also alludes to the moment of surveillance cameras and reminds us that we may be at the mercy of unasked and unintentional media control.
One 12-part tableau Osaka Public / Osaka Private, 2006, is part of the Photographic Collection.
The book Könnte Sein (published by Kodoji Press with a text by Christoph Hochhäusler) was released in Osaka, at Tetsuya Goto’s place OOO (Out of Office) in 2008 supported by Ernst-Poesgen Stiftung Düsseldorf.
